Memorial Day: Mourning, not Celebrating
“What I essentially realized was that most wars throughout the history of the US have been fought due to greed and political agenda, not for the preservation of life and liberty.
“But Memorial Day isn’t about the wars that were fought and the reasons why, it’s about honoring our veterans who sacrificed for this country” many would say.
I definitely think that we should mourn for these soldiers and never forget them, this I believe we can all agree on. However what we should not be doing is celebrating the idea of being a soldier, that it is some how glorious, that all soldiers are heroes and have fought to protect our freedoms. Looking back on the history of US military policy, it’s easy to see that relatively little has been done by the military to fight for our freedoms, and that not all soldiers are good people. We must be mournful for this, and NEVER forget, lest we are doomed to repeat our mistakes.”

Don’t lie to your self being in another country is not defending me. I’m pretty sure no standing american army has protect me from invasion. The army should only be a coast guard and a national guard, and I’m still kind iffy on that. (Really you could have a very small administrative army for strategy etc and have a trained group of a non standing army. Who when need gets called on to defend, but it’s not their main job.)
Why do people automatically respect some one who at the same time is “just following orders.”

Atheists vs agnostic
As Penn says agnostic does not answer the question “do you believe in god?” it answers the epistemological question about whether such a thing can be known. If you answer the question do you believe in god as “I dont know”, then your answer is no. Believe is an active process. Being an atheist never says there can be a god, just that I don’t believe.
